Killing a Critical Spirit
September 22, 2011 in Love
I want you to succeed in life. I’ve learned you will never reach your full potential in God if you have a critical spirit. I used to have a really critical spirit. I would pre-judge people, criticize other ministers and thought I had all the answers. My critical spirit peaked in college and about that time God began to sharply deal with me. Now I walk in love, mercy and understanding. Let me give you 3 reasons to kill a critical spirit:
1) It is not love. God has commanded us to love our neighbor. I’m convinced many believers are not walking this out on a daily basis.
James 2:8 “You are doing right if you obey this law from the highest authority: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” – (GWT)
2) You increase the judgement on your own life. The only life you’re really attacking is your own. God doesn’t judge someone else by what you say, but He will use your harsh words to judge you.
Matthew 7:2 – “Otherwise, you will be judged by the same standard you use to judge others. The standards you use for others will be applied to you.”
3) They don’t belong to you. Sometimes critical people think they are better than everyone else and that their judgement of someone or something is final. But only God’s judgement is final and His love is everlasting towards that life.
Romans 14:4 – “Who are you to criticize someone else’s servant? The Lord will determine whether his servant has been successful. The servant will be successful because the Lord makes him successful.”
Don’t allow a critical spirit to remain in you today. Replace it with the love of God. It’s amazing how your life will advance if you stop worrying about others and just get busy with your own destiny! Remember, small people talk about others, medium people talk about events, but big people talk about the future.
